PROJECT BRAZIL-CHINA was founded in 1992 in order to connect the different cultures of these two huge and yet so different nations. It all started with the soap opera "Escrava Isaura" (Slave Isaura) produced by Globo TV in which Lucélia Santos plays the leading role. Since then, Nhock Produções (Lucélia's production company), has carried out 6 documentaries for television, as well as the movie and TV short series "DESTINO" (DESTINY), in their final stages. The movie will have its grand opening at the Shanghai Festival in June. The cultural relation between Brazil and China has been widely developed since "Escrava Isaura" was first shown in the Chinese movie theaters in the mid 80s. It is estimated that more than 1 billion Chinese viewers followed "Ninú Isóla's" ordeal (Lucélia Santos´ character). Besides placing Globo TV in that type of market, it was also a landmark for the actress Lucélia Santos: "I was in the Chinese people unconscious. I realized I could take advantage of the fact that I was dear to them and dedicate myself to better relations between the two countries in an effective manner." Her relationship with China began with the "Águia de Ouro Award" for best actress provided by popular vote from the Chinese people (300 million) in 1985, soon becoming more serious in 1992 when, in conjunction with Sichuan TV in Chengdud, initiated the Brazil-China Project. |
